Gorgeous Outdoor Maternity Session in Charlotte, NC

Nikia and Reggie wanted to celebrate the arrival of their daughter with a traditional baby shower, but COVID-19 derailed their plans. So, instead of having a shower, they decided to have a maternity photoshoot.

Nikia shares, “My phenomenal photographer, Cynthia Ndelo Photography, had a vision and I went with it. It was completely out of the box for me, but I trusted that she’d produce something amazing. I was aware it would be something not as traditional and a little risque. She exceeded my expectations without a doubt. “

Is this your first child or do you have other children?

This is not our first child. We have an energetic two year old.

Boy or Girl?

He’s an amazing boy. All boy for sure!

How has your pregnancy been?

My pregnancy was a bit rough. I had morning sickness my entire pregnancy. I tried two different medications and neither of them worked. My lower back ached a ton, and I was pretty uncomfortable earlier on in this pregnancy compared to my last. Unfortunately, COVID-19 came about. However, it forced me to stay home and I was able to get a little rest before having to be induced at 37 weeks.

Depending on the sex of your child, they say that each pregnancy is different! In your opinion would you say this is true?

This was true for me. Things that worked for relief with my son, didn’t relieve me with my daughter. Movements were in different locations, progression was different, and cravings were different for sure!

All mommy’s-to-be experience those crazy cravings! What’s been your guilty pleasure?

Sweets! I’m not typically a huge sweets eater. During this pregnancy, I couldn’t get enough of them. Cookies, cake, ice cream, candy. It didn’t matter!

What was the inspiration for your maternity shoot?

I wasn’t able to have a baby shower due to COVID-19, but I still wanted to celebrate the arrival of our daughter. My phenomenal photographer, Cndelophotography, had a vision and I went with it. It was completely out of the box for me, but I trusted that she’d produce something amazing. I was aware it would be something not as traditional and a little risque. She exceeded my expectations without a doubt.

What aspect of motherhood/fatherhood are you looking forward to the most?

I think I’m most looking forward to seeing the relationship build between our son and daughter. There is nothing like having a close relationship with your sibling. I can’t wait to see them growing and excelling together.

What is your advice for expecting mothers/parents?

Be grateful, be present, be patient. Parenthood isn’t guaranteed. When you are appreciative of the wonderful gift, it changes your perspective. You want to be present and an active participant in your children’s lives. Your patience will allow you to see so much more as they become their own person. It is an amazing journey.
